While a laptop bag might be all you think you need when it comes to keeping your laptop in the best condition, bear in mind those times when it’s not protected or when a bag isn’t convenient. If you’re running from meeting to meeting or using your laptop within the home, the chances are you don’t return your laptop to its bag each time you move and instead opt to carry it in your hands or leave it on a table or desk. Laptop sleeves fit snugly around a laptop to avoid slipping and are available in sizes ranging from around ten inches for netbooks all the way to 17 inches and beyond for larger laptops. Some laptop case manufacturers also include a sleeve as part of their bags that can be removed and used on its own for extra portability. Being so lightweight, it’s easy to slip your laptop in and out of a sleeve as and when you need it rather than risk leaving it “naked” for extended periods of time. If you’re travelling light or have a short walk from the home to the office, a sleeve may be all the protection you need should you wish to carry your laptop in your hand and maybe get a bit of work done while you’re travelling.
Neoprene sleeve is one of the more popular laptop sleeve materials for its lightweight flexibility and is normally used for making wetsuits. Some manufacturers have even done deals with others in order to secure offcuts of neoprene to recycle and create cases from, so saving your laptop could also be saving the planet.
LRPu (low-resilience polyurethane) is another laptop sleeve favorite for its durability and shock absorption and is also used for camera cases and bags. Some more premium sleeves take advantage of leather and suede for more professional protection and even hessian and fur are used in the past for a more flamboyant look.
With hundreds of designs available, your laptop can be protected while looking as stylish or as subtle as you need and a sleeve is also a great way to disguise the fact that you are carrying an expensive piece of electrical equipment. Designs offer a wide range of colors and textures and there is literally a style for everyone as an important part of laptop accessories. If protecting your laptop is key but you don’t want to scrimp on style or spend out on a full-blown case, a sleeve is a great option.
